Asset management "made in Luxembourg"

Official launch of Luxembourg-based asset management boutique European Capital Partners and its first UCITS strategy

Press Release - Luxembourg, 2 November 2015.   European Capital Partners (www.ecp.lu), the Luxembourg-based asset management company founded by local entrepreneurs, presented itself for the first time to the public and officially launched its “European equities”- strategy in the form of a UCITS fund. In the presence of more than a hundred experts and friends from the insurance, banking and public sector as well as the asset management industry, European Capital Partners (ECP) officially launched its activities during an event held at the cultural center "Scheiss“ on Thursday, 29 October 2015. ECP´s core expertise relies on the experience of the partners in listed securities and private equity. The company has a solid foundation after obtaining the necessary regulatory licenses and authorizations. Founded by local entrepreneurs such as Knut Reinertz and Patrick Hansen and directed by Léon Kirch as Chief Investment Officer, European Capital Partners is also a decidedly Luxemburgish asset manager. During the event, Patrick Hansen, Chairman of the Board of ECP, presented the opportunities that Luxembourg offers to entrepreneurs. The founders of ECP are convinced that they offer true value to their customers with their asset management approach based on "entrepreneurial value investing" – “Entrepreneurial” in the sense that every investment opportunity is analyzed in the same way that an entrepreneur would value a company if he was to acquire it. “Value”- based investing is characterized by the fact that ECP invests only in companies that are priced at a discount of at least 40% to their “intrinsic” value. This discount, known as the "margin of safety", is based on the principles formulated first by the "father of value investing," Benjamin Graham. Finally, ECP views itself as a long term investor by adopting an investment horizon of 4 to 5 years. The result is a decidedly active management style and concentrated portfolios, where managers are encouraged to think outside the box and seize investment opportunities wherever they present themselves. During the evening, Patrick Hansen argued that "Luxembourg, when it comes to asset management,  has all the competencies to move up the value chain Luxembourg can leave its past of being a pure back-office, behind and position itself also as a place for investment decision-making”. Léon Kirch said: “The strong skills of our team coupled with our know-how in private equity and marketable securities provide ECP with all the tools necessary for success. We now launched our first UCITS strategy based on the "entrepreneurial value investing" approach with a particular focus on our reputable investment strategy in European equities”. In this sense, Léon Kirch, with his long dated experience and impressive track record, also convinced some members of his former team to join him at ECP. The launch event was enriched by the performance of the renowned Luxemburgish cellist André Mergenthaler.
